With theatres closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, many Bollywood films are being released directly on OTT platforms. One such film is Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb, which is all set to stream on Disney Plus Hotstar. Laxmmi Bomb is a horror-comedy and stars Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani in the lead roles. It is the official Hindi remake of hit 2011 Tamil film Kanchana. The film was directed by Raghava Lawrence, who had also directed and starred in the original movie.

Akshay plays the role of a transgender in Laxmmi Bomb. He called this film his ‘passion project,’ revealing that he wanted to make this film ever since he heard the story many years ago. He said, “It was like my passion project, but it kept getting delayed for one reason or the other. Eventually, everything fell into place and here we go.”  He further added that horror-comedy is his favourite genre.

In this film, we will see Akshay in a never-before-seen avatar. Akshay Kumar called this his most ‘intensive role mentally’. He said, “I’ve never experienced such a character before, with this kind of action, reaction, and body language. Credit for this goes to my director. He introduced me to a version of me I didn’t know even existed.” He also revealed that he had to be cautious while playing this role, as he didn’t want to offend any community. “I had to be cautious of playing it with full honesty without offending any community. This film has taught me more about gender equality. Be anything you want, just don’t be ignorant,” he said.

Laxmmi Bomb was supposed to be released in theatres on Eid, but it got postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic. Apart from Laxmmi Bomb, Sushant Singh Rajput’s Dil Bechara, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride of India, Abhishek Bachchan’s The Big Bull, Alia Bhatt’s Sadak 2, Vidyut Jammwal’s Khuda Haafiz, and Kunal Kemmu’s Lootcase will also be releasing on Disney Plus Hotstar.
