Bollywood producer and director Karan Johar, who has been receiving major backlash on social media due to ongoing debate of nepotism following the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, has reportedly resigned from Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) Mumbai Film Festival Board. According to a report in Pinkvilla, Karan has already sent in his resignation to the director of the annual film festival, Smriti Kiran. The reports also suggest that actress Deepika Padukone, who is currently the MAMI chairperson, tried to convince Karan to stay back.

Karan Johar has been receiving major backlash since the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. He is being accused of promoting nepotism in Bollywood and is also being held responsible for pushing the actor to take such a drastic step. People are trolling and abusing him on social media. He has lost more than 500,000 followers on Instagram since Sushant’s death. His show, Koffee With Karan has also come under a lot of fire. Clips from the show in which Sushant was mentioned are also doing rounds on the internet. Along with Karan, celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor, Varun dhawan and Sonakshi Sinha are also receiving major backlash. Because of this, Sonakshi Sinha has deleted her Twitter account. Karan has also been keeping a low profile on social media. He is keeping a tight lip on the entire nepotism debate.
