Music director-singer Wajid Khan of famous composer duo Sajid-Wajid passed away at the age of 42 on Monday in Surana hospital, Chembur, Mumbai, due to complications from a kidney infection. His brother Sajid confirmed to news agency PTI that the musician had tested positive for COVID-19, and died of cardiac arrest. A source close to his family told PTI, “He had coronavirus. When you already have heart and kidney issues, your immunity is low. His situation worsened in the last few days.”
The news of his demise was confirmed by singer Salim Merchant. “He had multiple issues. He had a kidney issue and had a transplant a while ago. But recently he got to know about Kidney infection. He was on ventilator for the last four days, after his situation started getting worse. Kidney infection was the beginning and then he got critical,” Salim said in his statement to PTI.
Wajid Khan was the son of Ustad Sharafat Ali Khan, a tabla player. He along with his brother Sajid had composed songs for many superhit films like Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya, Partner, Ek Tha Tiger, Tere Naam, Welcome, the Dabbang franchise, and many more. Wajid was also a judge on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’lil champs in 2018.
Many Bollywood celebrities expressed their condolences and mourned Wajid’s death through social media. Priyanka Chopra tweeted, “The one thing i will always remember is Wajid Bhai’s laugh. Always smiling. Gone too soon.” Amitabh bachchan also expressed his condolences, “Shocked at the passing of Wajid Khan. A bright smiling talent passed away.. duas, prayers and in condolence.”
